functional movement assessments

Our Functional Movement Assessments use principles from the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) to identify movement limitations, mobility restrictions, stability deficits, and compensatory patterns that may be contributing to pain or limiting performance. Rather than focusing solely on where symptoms occur, we look at how your entire body moves to determine the underlying factors affecting your ability to train, compete, work, and stay active.

What is SFMA?

The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a movement-based diagnostic system used by healthcare and rehabilitation professionals to evaluate how different regions of the body work together during movement.

The SFMA allows us to identify whether a movement limitation is being driven by:

  • Joint mobility restrictions

  • Muscle tightness or flexibility limitations

  • Stability or motor control deficits

  • Strength deficits

  • Movement compensation patterns

  • Pain during movement

Who Can Benefit From a Functional Movement Assessment?

Functional movement assessments can benefit:

  • Athletes looking to improve performance

  • Active adults wanting to move more efficiently

  • Runners preparing for races

  • Golfers looking to improve mobility and rotation

  • Individuals returning to activity after injury

  • People dealing with recurring pain or stiffness

  • Anyone frustrated that symptoms keep returning despite treatment
